CHRISTMAS CONCERT 2025
The choir celebrated Christmas 2025 at Lyle Kirk, Greenock, directed by conductor Nicholas Wilks.
We were joined once again by Riverside Youth Band, led by Mark Good, and in addition welcomed back the children’s choir, Angel Voices, led by Jane Howie for a lovely set of songs.
The accompanist was Christopher Nickol on organ and piano, and the Riverside Band joined in with accompaniment for audience carols.
The programme included favourite seasonal choral works and carols for the audience to sing, as well as more recent music from living composers. There were some highlights from Handel’s Messiah as well as some more recent gems by Peter Warlock, Elizabeth Poston and Oliver Tarney.
Conductor, Nicholas Wilks, said afterwards “Our Christmas concert is a great opportunity to bring our community together with a mix of familiar favourites and some beautiful music for Advent. There was a fantastic sense of commitment in the singing, not least in the two most challenging pieces - the Tarney and the Warlock. The Messiah choruses had an impressive range and the singing managed to compete admirably with the celebratory trumpets and timpani in the “Hallelujah" chorus.”
