CHRISTMAS CONCERT 2024
The choir held their 2024 Christmas Concert in Lyle Kirk, Greenock.
We were delighted to be joined once again by the award winning Riverside Youth Band, led by Mark Good, for a wonderful performance and also accompaniment with the audience carols. We also had the excellent Chris Nickol accompanying us on organ and piano once again.
It was a joy to welcome for the first time the children’s choir Angel Voices, led by Michael Hepburn, for a lovely set of songs.
The choir’s programme included favourite seasonal choral works, carols for the audience to sing, as well as more recent songs from living composers. The choir were excited to perform the beautiful arrangement of The Christ Child’s Lullaby from Sir James MacMillan’s Christmas Oratorio, and were delighted to welcome the composer himself to the performance.
Other pieces included Adam lay ybounden by Peter Warlock, A maiden most gentle by Andrew Carter, Candlelight Carol by John Rutter and In the bleak mid-winter by Gustav Holst. Puer natus in Bethlehem by Samuel Scheidt also featured a brass ensemble.
Musical Director Nicholas Wilks said, “The concert was a tremendous success, and our large and enthusiastic audience clearly loved it. I was especially impressed by the consistency of everything, and the palpable commitment behind everything we sang.”
