NEW TERM -
WORKING ON A GERMAN REQUIEM
The choir has resumed for the new season. Rehearsals are at 7.15pm on Monday evenings in Lyle Kirk, Union Street, Greenock. New singers in all sections will be made very welcome.
We are working towards a performance on 29th March of Brahms’ A German Requiem.
Musical Director, Nicholas Wilks said, “It’s a work which is sometimes spoiled by an over-reverential approach - slow speeds and the use of a musty old Victorian English translation. We started rehearsing back in September, and are looking forward to sharing with our audience a fresh take on the music when we perform it next year. We want to treat the requiem as the work of a young man, serious in its reflections on bereavement and loss, certainly, but also highly original, particularly in its choice of text.
The choir will be joined by soloists Emily Mitchell and Timothy Edmundston, and the Glasgow Chamber Orchestra. We hope you will be able to join us for this special concert.
Anybody interested in joining the choir should contact Lynne MacMillan at 07802 780468, or email info@greenockphilharmonic.co.uk.
Music reading is helpful but not essential.
