Come and join members of the Greenock Philharmonic Choir and many others to explore vocal techniques and build confidence by singing a variety of material, including Cantique de Jean Racine by Gabriel Fauré.

Suitable for experienced singers but also for new singers.  There will be a warm welcome, as well as tea, coffee and home baking provided.  

​

Our workshop will be an exciting opportunity to discover different ways of freeing our voices and building confidence in our singing. The morning sessions will be led by the mezzo soprano Sarah Shorter and baritone Colin Murray, both of whom sang with us in our performance of Mozart’s Requiem in 2024.

 

In the afternoon the Musical Director of Greenock Philharmonic Choir, Nicholas Wilks, will explore a wide range of new territory, including some ingenious musical games, an Australian sea shanty and songs from Western and non-Western traditions, all of which we will approach from an entirely fresh perspective.

Sarah Shorter is a member of Scottish Opera, a leader in its Opera Factory initiative and Musical Director of Close Shave Chorus based in Glasgow.

 

Colin Murray is a former Emerging Artist with Scottish Opera and regularly leads workshops for the National Youth Choir of Scotland.

 

Our Musical Director Nicholas Wilks has a wide experience of conducting both youth and adult choirs and orchestras, including his current directorship of Edinburgh Bach Choir and guest work with the RSNO Chorus.

 

Our accompanist will be Chris Nickol, organist and director of music at New Kilpatrick Parish Church and regular organ recitalist at Kelvingrove Art Gallery.

 

Whether you are new to singing, an experienced singer or simply want to refresh your voice this will be a hugely enjoyable and invigorating experience.
