TRAINING DAY 2025

‘Unlock your voice with Vivaldi’s Gloria’

On 23rd August, Greenock Philharmonic members joined with singers from other choirs and elsewhere in a day of singing training at Old Gourock & Ashton Parish Church.

The day was led by Nicholas Wilks and Laura McFall, with accompaniment by Chris Nickol.

Rather than a traditional Come and Sing event, this was a singing workshop which used a range of different music alongside movements from the Vivaldi Gloria (including some African layered singing and Eastern European folk music) to help singers explore aspects of choral singing including healthy posture and support, breathing and how to access one’s own individual voice at its best.

The workshop was tremendous fun – the three leaders brought a wealth of experience which contributed to an energetic and inspiring day of singing. There was also the added social element with plenty of tea, coffee and home baking.
